Over the last year Facebook has been in the news due to the company’s phenomenal success in dominating the social network sites. They quickly grew among Canadian users and eventually took over MySpace as the number one site to meet up with your old friends keep in contact. This has been in large part due to the company’s constant restructuring of tools and applications they offer their members which of course is always free. Recently they introduced a free poker application where you can host your own games with your friends, join a network of tables and even invite those to join who have yet to become a member of Facebook. while most would think this was just your basic application like most other games available on the website, it was in turn a way for the media giant to test the market and really study not only the popularity of the game but the time spent playing it.

During this trial period, Facebook learned that over 30 million adults on their network play free poker on average 3 hours a week. When we say their network we are only talking about Facebook members, since you cannot sit in a game without creating an account. More importantly these 30 million players were playing free poker which showed there is an interest in the game.

The Facebook application is the third most popular application among users and supports over 370,000 players daily. They also offer users free chips for referring their friends and rate you on the size of your bankroll.

It is predicted that this may become the new means of online poker if in fact the UIGEA is overturned.
